All About Tea!

Next to water, tea is the most widely consumed beverage on the planet. Grown in several countries around the globe, the tea plant yields numerous varieties of teas, ranging from the commonly known black tea to the exotic white, yellow and pu-erh tea. Throughout history, the innocuous tea leaf has sparked world trade, united cultures and even started rebellions. In modern times, tea has become recognized for its healthy benefits and has become widely accepted as a symbol of peace and harmony.
Join us and gain an understanding of many aspects of the world of specialty teas including an overview of the numerous varieties of tea, the history of tea and its place in cultures around the world. We will learn how teas are produced and how to brew the perfect cup of tea. Several tea varieties will be brewed for comparison, discussion and sipping!
The presenter, Hartley E. Johnson, will provide an overview of the Acton based Mark T. Wendell Tea Company and Grace Tea Company, local, family-run businesses for decades. He is the 4th generation in his family involved in the tea importing trade. Hartley grew up in Acton and has lived in Sudbury for 24 years where he is active in the community serving on the Board of Directors of Sudbury Youth Soccer and as the current President of the Sudbury Historical Society.
