Infant Storytime ~ Mother Goose on the Loose (no sign-up required) – Ages 0 – 2:  Tuesdays & Wednesdays at
10:30
Mother Goose on the Loose is an early literacy program that uses rhymes and songs to help pre-reading children get ready for reading. It incorporates music, movement, ritual, repetition, positive reinforcement, developmental tips, nursery rhymes, illustrations, puppets, musical instruments, colored scarves, and book reading into a fun-filled 30 minute session for infants to 2-year-olds and their caregivers.

Toddler Storytime (pre-registration required) – Ages 2 & 3
This 25 minute, interactive, theme-based storytime includes songs, simple stories, flannelboard stories, creative dramatics, and fingerplays appropriate for toddlers aged 2 & 3 years old.  This storytime runs in 5 or 6 week sessions through the school year; pre-registration required.  Registration for this school year’s last 5 week session began on 4/28/08 ; that session will start on 5/12/08 . Limit of 10 children and their caregivers per time slot.  Call the children’s librarian for more information:  (978) 456 – 2381.

Preschool Storytime (no sign-up required) – Ages 4 – 7:  Thursdays at 10:30
This half-hour program consists of a mix of quiet and interactive stories and fingerplays, with occasional crafts and occasional special appearances from the library’s puppets.  It is geared for children ages 4 to 7 and their caregivers. 

Saturday Storytimes – Ages 3 to 7: Saturdays at 11:00
Teen volunteers lead these fun drop-in, half-hour Saturday Storytimes for children ages 3 to 7 and their caregivers.  These enthusiastic Harvard teen volunteers read a fun mix of stories.  No sign-up required.


                                               


Program Descriptions

 

Balloon Sculpting Workshop with Ed Popielarczyk – 3rd Grade and up:  Wednesday, April 30 from 1:30 – 2:30
Ed Popielarczyk, a professional magician, balloon sculptor, and storyteller with 25 years of entertainment experience, will run a balloon sculpting workshop for a group of 30 kids aged 3rd grade and older.  In the workshop, Ed will talk about balloon safety first, and show the different types of balloons that he uses.  Then Ed will teach the group how to make a puppy dog, a weenie dog, a giraffe, and a mouse, before moving on to balloon hats!  He will show how to make a basic hat base and demonstrate how to attach balloons to the base – and then everyone gets to make their own hats!  Everything you make is yours to take home.  Enrollment is strictly limited to 30 participants aged 3rd grade and older; pre-registration is required.

The 3rd Grade Book is: A Boy, A Girl, and a Monster Cat by Gail Gauthier.  The 5th Grade Book is: Castaways of the Flying Dutchman by Brian Jacques.  The 6th Grade Book is: The Falconer’s Malteser: A Diamond Brothers Mystery by Anthony Horowitz.  Join this once-monthly book group for a lively book discussion and a yummy afternoon snack of bagels and cream cheese.  Book group members should read all of the book prior to the group meeting.
New members are always welcome ~ please pre-register, and we will request the book for you.


Origami Fun –
(Grades 2 and up):  Wednesday, May 21  from
1:30 to 2:30 PM
We’ll have fun folding a variety of beautiful origami papers to create different animals and objects.
Limit of 10 ~ pre-registration is required.  Call the children’s room at (978) 456 – 2381 to sign up.

The 3rd Grade Book is: Welcome to the Bed and Biscuit by Joan Carris.  The 5th Grade Book is: A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle.  The 6th Grade Book is: Time Stops for No Mouse by Michael Hoeye.  Join this once-monthly book group for a lively book discussion and a yummy afternoon snack of bagels and cream cheese.  Book group members should read all of the book prior to the group meeting.  New members are always welcome ~ please pre-register, and we will request the book for you.

Teen Book Groups – Grades 7 – 9 and Grades 10 – 12: Tuesday, May 6  from 4:30 to 5:30 PM
Both groups will meet on Tuesday, May 6 from 4:30 to 5:30 , but each group will read and discuss a different book; each group is facilitated by a library staff member.  The book for Grades 7 – 9 is: Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale.  Book group members should read the book prior to the meeting.  New members are always welcome ~ please pre-register, and we will reserve a copy of the book for you.
